Why did Jacques Marquette decide to be a explorer?
He decided to be explorer because he liked to travel and explore. His dad wanted him to be a soldier like the rest of his family.Jacques was a french explorer he became a explorer in the mid 1600 in North America. Jacques founded Sault St marie and St Ignace Michigan and the Mississippi river with Jolliet and five other men in two canoes. He was also a Jesuit priest and French missionary.
He was born June 10 1637 in Laon, France. Died May 18 1675 age 38 Michigan United States. He met Jolliet in 1661. He was sent to new France in 1666 and studied Native Americian languages under a missionary. In 1668 he was sent as a missionary to the Ottawa. His family was Nicolas Marquette (step dad) ,Rose Marquette de La Salle(mother), two older sister and three younger brothers. Jacques Marquette attended schools ran by Jesuit priest.
